I am so excited to share all the stuff we have going on in June. I am hopeful this month will bring new focus to how we eat, and think, of food.
Starting June 1st we will begin our focus on nutrition habits. This means habits we can control such as eating slowly, eating to 80% full, staying hydrated. Through this month I will be posting our focus on Social Media Monday morning. Each week I will share tips and tricks related to our weekly focus in order to help motivate and guide you along. As we move towards July we will begin focusing on the specific foods we are eating. This will lead us into our 800 Gram challenge in July!
As for fitness, the June strength program has been email out and tomorrow is the start day! I left the 'run plan' on this months program in case some of you are still working on the running. Speaking of running.... this brings me to our JUNE 5K!! I am so excited to get everyone out to work hard. For some of you this will be your first attempt at a 5K, for some this will be one of many. The one thing true for all of us, we are motivated and ready to reach our goals!
Something I care deeply about it self love! We always have a goals for how we can improve ourselves (that's human nature) but through this process we need to remember we are amazing the way we are. We are going to take this month off from weighing on the scale in order to focus on listening to our bodies. This includes hunger and fullness ques as well as focusing on non scale victories. I want to make sure everyone can take some pride in the hard work and habits being achieved instead of focusing on the weight on the scale.
]]>There are several reasons activity will help increase your happiness. First of all, physical activity increases the production of endorphin's, a chemical produced by the body to help diminish pain and bring positive feelings. This process also helps to reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety! Not to mention the confidence you will gain from knowing you are taking care of you!
People who exercise regularly have a higher chance of getting a good nights sleep, not only the quantity but also the quality. I'm sure some of the mood lifting helps, but also think of a day where you were really physically worn out. It feels so good to lie down! And don't forget the kids. Its amazing to watch children move, as if they could never run out of energy, only to hit the pillow exhausted sleep so peacefully.
Don't stop at the vitamin D! Bones also need a 'bone healthy' exercise program! Weigh bearing movements are proven to slow bone loss and even build new bone. Activities that put stress on bones actually stimulate extra deposits of calcium, and boost bone-forming cells into action. And all you young ladies out there, don't think this doesn't apply to you! Starting young helps prevent the need to fix problems later.
According to the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/physicalactivity/basics/pa-health/index.htm) regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health! They list benefits as reduction in your risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndromes and cancers. Regardless of your age, these are all health concerns we should be working to avoid!
One of the worst things you can do when starting to workout is to quit too early! I think we can all relate to this situation. It leads to a lack of the three important words above. Start your workout plan slowly, build as you go and don't get discouraged too early. Once you stick to a plan you will achieve all the benefits listed above, plus more. And I think we could all use a little more of each of these!
The five benefits listed above are just the tip of iceberg! Exercising has many benefits and is vital to living a happy, healthy life. You don't have to make it overwhelming, even a daily walk is better than not!
]]>I could spend an entire morning going over the benefits of weight training, and most importantly the benefits for WOMEN to weight train, but instead I narrowed it down to 5 very important facts.
